Lawrence County Superior Courts to close Monday; Instructions for rescheduling hearings

BEDFORD — In conjunction with the broader closure of Lawrence County government offices, Superior Court 1 and Superior Court 2 will be closed tomorrow, Monday, January 26, 2026, due to the ongoing winter storm and hazardous road conditions.

Judge Robert Cline of Superior Court II issued a directive this afternoon for individuals who have hearings or appearances currently on the Monday docket.

Rescheduling Your Court Date

Officials have provided the following instructions based on legal representation:

  • If you are represented by an attorney: You should contact your legal counsel immediately. Your attorney will be responsible for contacting the court to secure a new “reset” date for your hearing.
  • If you do not have an attorney: It is your personal responsibility to contact the court clerk’s office on Tuesday, January 27, or as soon as offices reopen, to receive your new appearance date.

While the physical offices are closed on Monday, residents can utilize the following contact information for follow-up on Tuesday:

  • Superior Court 1: 812-275-3124
  • Superior Court 2: 812-275-4161

Failure to contact the court or your attorney to reschedule may result in a failure to appear warrant or other legal complications.

Residents are urged not to attempt to visit the courthouse tomorrow, as the building will be locked and inaccessible to the public due to the Red Travel Warning currently in effect for Lawrence County.

The courts are expected to resume normal operations on Tuesday, pending a reassessment of weather conditions and road safety.
