SULLIVAN CO. – At the request of Sullivan County Sheriff Jason Bobbitt, detectives from the Indiana State Police Putnamville Post are investigating shots being fired during a stolen vehicle pursuit at approximately 1:00 p.m. on January 16, near Shelburn, Indiana.
At approximately 1:00 p.m., the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a stolen vehicle in the Hymera. A deputy from the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department was able to locate the vehicle traveling west on State Road 48 and pursued the stolen vehicle to County Road 200 East.Â
The pursued vehicle stopped and attempted to back up. It was at this time that the deputy discharged his firearm at the pursued vehicle, but it continued westbound into a wooded area eventually coming to an abrupt stop. The driver exited the damaged vehicle and ran, stealing a second vehicle. Deputies were able to apprehend the driver a short time later.  Â

The driver was then identified as Marci D. Coleman, 31, of Jasonville. She was taken into custody by the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department for resisting law enforcement and theft. Â
This is an active and ongoing Indiana State Police investigation. There is no further information to release at this time. Upon completion of their investigation, Indiana State Police detectives will submit a full report of the incident to the Sullivan County Prosecutor’s Office for review and determination of charges filed.
Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent until proven guilty through a fair and due legal process. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
