Steven L. George, 73, of Mitchell, passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born August 14, 1952, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Herbert Lee and Nancy Jane (Wintersmith) George. He married Mary Baker on August 28, 1998. He was a big fan of sports, he played basketball, baseball, football, and ran track and cross country, all at Mitchell High School. While in high school he was also a part of the school musical and play. He enjoyed riding his Harley with his buddies. He attended Southwest Baptist College on a basketball scholarship. He retired from General Motors in 2009 after 36.8 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Mary George; brother Billy (Carol) George; sister Suzanne (Gary) White; nieces and nephews, Jaron (Tina) White, Mathew White, Tyler (Jessica) George, Amber (Thomas) Young, Trevor George, Brandt George, Ayden George, Xsavier George, Maddy White, Mya White, Landon George, Jax George; six dogs who he loved dearly, Rowdy, Evee Lee, Ziggy, Philis, Phil, and Flowers.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
