Traffic stop leads to meth, fentanyl, and marijuana seizure in Bedford

BEDFORD — A Bedford man was arrested Friday evening after police stopped a vehicle and found multiple illegal substances, authorities said.

Samuel Bultman, 32, was taken into custody on Jan. 10 following a traffic stop near the 1700 block of C Street, according to a probable cause affidavit filed by Officer J. Landon Jones of the Bedford Police Department. Officers Bailey Duprey and Captain Emmons assisted with the arrest.

Police said the stop occurred after a blue SUV failed to come to a complete stop at an intersection. Bultman was a passenger in the vehicle, which was being driven by Hannah E. Baker. Both individuals have prior histories involving narcotics, authorities noted.

During the stop, officers conducted a pat-down of Bultman and discovered marijuana and two hypodermic syringes in his jacket pocket. A further search revealed three plastic bags concealed in his clothing: two contained a crystal-like substance later confirmed as methamphetamine and fentanyl, and one contained a plant-like substance confirmed as marijuana.

Bultman became erratic at the scene and was transported to the Lawrence County Jail for processing and housing. The vehicle’s driver, Baker, consented to a search of her person and vehicle; three syringes were found, but no other contraband was located.

Bultman faces charges of possession of methamphetamine under 5 grams with an enhancing circumstance, possession of a narcotic with an enhancing circumstance, possession of marijuana, and unlawful possession of a syringe.

All evidence was collected and transported to the Bedford Police Department, and body camera footage documented the arrest.

Officer J. Landon Jones, along with Officers Bailey Duprey and Captain Emmons, handled the investigation and arrest.

Those arrested are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
