LAWRENCE COUNTY — A Bedford-area woman was arrested early Saturday morning after a traffic stop revealed she was driving under the influence of alcohol, authorities said.

Rebecca Haagsma was pulled over around 3:50 a.m. Jan. 10 on State Road 37 near Dixie Highway after Trooper Cody R. Brown of the Indiana State Police observed that the taillights on her black Ford F-150 were not working, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Trooper Brown reported detecting the odor of alcohol on Haagsma’s breath and noted signs of impairment, including glossy eyes and poor manual dexterity. Haagsma admitted to having consumed several beers earlier in the evening.
During field sobriety testing, Haagsma displayed multiple indicators of impairment. A portable breath test showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.208, well above Indiana’s legal limit. She was transported to IU Health in Bedford for a blood draw and medical clearance.
Haagsma was arrested for operating while intoxicated (OWI) with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.15 or higher. Police also noted that she had a previous OWI conviction within the past seven years, resulting in an additional charge of operating while intoxicated with a prior conviction.
Trooper Cody R. Brown handled the traffic stop and investigation.
Those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
