Obituary: John T. Tumey

November 17, 1941 – January 14, 2026

John T. Tumey, 84, of Bedford, passed away at 2:26 pm on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at University of Louisville Hospital.

Born November 17, 1941, in Bedford, he was the son of John W. and Evelyn L. (Bowman) Tumey. He married Carolyn Pridemore on August 12, 1961, and she survives. He began his career with John Tumey Movers, then worked as a service specialist for Indiana Gas, later named Vectren. He loved Harley Davidson motorcycles and antique cars.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn, of Bedford; a daughter, Karen Butler, of Mitchell; a daughter-in-law, Becky Tumey; two granddaughters, Kalee Butler and Kylee Corner, and husband, Toby; a grandson, Jeremy Tumey and wife, Emily; a great-grandson, Asher Tumey; step-grandchildren, Carter and Gracie Solomon. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Donald Earl; his twin brother, Miles Eugene; a son, Scott Tumey, and son-in-law, Jerry Butler.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, January 20th, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Charlie Scott officiating. Burial will follow in Williams Church of Christ Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the hour of service on Tuesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
