The county will enter into a four-year agreement with Nexus Group Inc., a specialized firm that has assisted Indiana municipalities since 2000. The contract is set at $210,000 per year, totaling $840,000 over the life of the agreement.

Nexus Group currently provides technical expertise to more than a dozen county assessors across the state. Under the terms of the new contract, the firm will assist the Lawrence County Assessor’s office with two primary functions:

  • Real Property Valuation: Ensuring fair and accurate market value assessments for land and buildings.
  • Personal Property Audits: Reviewing business equipment and property filings to ensure compliance with state tax laws.

During the presentation, Collins noted that the Nexus Group bid was approximately $56,000 lower than other competing bids. The decision to recommend Nexus was based on the firm’s long-standing track record and its specialized experience with the nuances of Indiana’s complex property tax codes.

“Nexus Group provides a level of expertise and consistency that is vital for accurate local assessments,” Collins noted.

The contract ensures that the county remains in compliance with state-mandated “trending” and cyclical reassessment requirements through the end of the four-year term.
