Donald L. Tirey, 87 of Oolitic, passed away on Sunday January 11, 2026, at Stonebridge Health Campus in Bedford.
Don was born in Bedford on October 11, 1938, to George H. and Ada (Smith) Tirey. Don married Marilyn Lee Ellis on June 17, 1960, and she survives.
Don worked for the Town of Oolitic as Superintendent of the Street and Water Department, he also had Tirey’s Hardwood, and worked at Nick’s Tire Service in Oolitic, he also was a preacher at several churches, Don was a member of the Oolitic Church of Christ, and the Oolitic Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Marilyn L. Tirey of Oolitic, two sons,
David Tirey of Oolitic, and Jeff (Valleri) Tirey of Bedford, one sister, RheaDawn Anderson, six grandchildren, J.D., Steven, Tiffany, Alisha, Tony, and Andrew, six great grandchildren, Nevaeh, Dylan, James, Gabriel, Quinn, and Emma and several nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Ella Pearl Albright, Mary Jane Tirey, John Henry Tirey, Alvy Tirey, Phyllis Tucker, Delores Grubb, Wayne Tirey, Larry Tirey, and Bob Tirey.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday January 14, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Cresthaven Funeral Home with Brother Larry Mickler officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
