TRAFALGAR – Bedford North Lawrence’s Abby Tipton advanced to the IHSAA regional during girls high school wrestling action in the sectional at Indian Creek on Friday.
Tipton finished fourth at 145 pounds. The top four in each weight class qualified for the regional at Bloomington South on Jan. 10.
Tipton opened with a win over Bloomington South’s Leyda Valazquez (pin in 1:05), then suffered a semifinal loss to Whiteland’s Charli Hite (a 6-0 setback). Tipton topped Brown County’s Erin Murphy (pin in 2:52) in the consolation round, then fell to Shelbyville’s Karyme Astudillo (pin in 3:16) in the third-place match.
The top four in the regional will advance to the state finals in Indianapolis on Jan. 16.
