BEDFORD — A Bedford man was sentenced to six years in the Indiana Department of Correction after pleading guilty to attempted escape and being adjudicated a habitual offender, according to court officials.
Gage M. Stout, 27, was sentenced Dec. 22 by Judge Pro-Tem Robert Cline in Lawrence Superior Court I. Stout pleaded guilty to attempted escape as a Level 5 felony, along with a habitual offender enhancement, as part of a negotiated plea agreement with the State of Indiana.
Stout received credit for 64 days already served. The sentence will be served consecutively to another Lawrence County case.
Senior Deputy Prosecutor Sarah Cummings said the sentence stemmed from Stout’s actions after being committed to the Indiana Department of Corrections on a separate case.
“This prison sentence is the direct result of the defendant’s poor choice after being committed to the Indiana Department of Corrections on another case,” Cummings said in a statement. “The defendant chose to fight with the transport officer, and the State of Indiana will not tolerate a defendant trying to escape from transport.”
