WHITLEY CO. – On Monday, December 22, around 6:45 p.m. the Indiana State Police was called to the scene of a three-vehicle crash that involved a pedestrian.
The crash happened on US 24, west of County Road 800 East in Whitley County.
The initial investigation by the Indiana State Police Critical Incident Reconstruction Team shows that for an unknown reason, Vicente Ramos, 32, of Adrian, Michigan, walked into the roadway and was struck by three vehicles traveling on US 24.
The vehicles involved were a 2020 GMC Terrain driven by Rocky Burns, 65, of North Manchester, a 2019 Ford Mustang driven by Preston Watkins, 21, of North Webster, and a 2015 Ram pickup driven by Maria Shepherd, 68, of Lagro.
Ramos succumbed to his injuries at the scene. He was identified by the Whitley County Coroner’s Office, and his family has been notified.
No other injuries were reported.
The crash is still under investigation as we continue to collect evidence and find information.
The Indiana State Police was assisted by Whitley County Sherrif’s Department, Jefferson Township Fire, Washington Township Fire, and Parkview EMS.
