Seymour wrestlers conquer Stars

BEDFORD – Seymour posted a 57-7 victory over Bedford North Lawrence during boys high school wrestling action on Thursday night.

The Stars won two matches. Wyatt Philpott recorded a major decision over Connor Wilson with an 11-2 triumph at 138 pounds. Ian Fish edged Anthony Rohde by a 13-12 decision at 165.

”The boys wrestled well,” BNL coach Mike Branam said. “Wyatt, Ian, and Caine (Restall at 157) all looked very good against tough opponents.

“Wyatt took control from the beginning of the match and refused to let it go. Ian and Caine both had battles, and both fought to the very end. Ian was able to do what needed to be done to pull out the win. Caine, on the other hand, has been battling a sickness that hurt his conditioning, and he fell just a little bit short.”

Seymour’s Raul Diego Juan clipped Restall by a 13-10 decision.

The Owls took advantage of four pins and five forfeits.

“The rest of the team continues to steadily improve every day,” Branam said. “They have been diligently working on their technique in the room and are doing a good job of listening and adjusting during matches. But nothing compares to mat time and good competition. They will get just that over the next month.”

BNL will compete in the Bo Henry Classic at Bloomington North on Saturday.
