Indiana lawmakers announce scholarship opportunities for aspiring teachers

INDIANA– Indiana high school seniors and current college students dreaming of a career in the classroom have a significant opportunity to fund their education. State Representatives Michelle Davis (R-Whiteland) and Lori Goss-Reaves (R-Marion) are calling on students to apply for the Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship.

The program is designed to provide high-achieving students with the financial support necessary to pursue a teaching degree while incentivizing them to remain in Indiana to build their careers.

The scholarship offers substantial financial aid to students who commit to teaching in Indiana for at least five years after graduation. By easing the burden of tuition, state leaders hope to attract the “best and brightest” to the profession.

Rep. Michelle Davis

“Providing our future educators with the resources they need to succeed is an investment in our students and our state’s future,” said Rep. Michelle Davis. “This scholarship helps remove financial barriers, allowing passionate students to focus on becoming the high-quality teachers our communities need.”

Rep. Lori Goss-Reaves

Rep. Lori Goss-Reaves echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of keeping local talent within the state. “We want our students to stay in Indiana, establish their careers here, and inspire the next generation of Hoosiers. This program is a win-win for our schools and our workforce.”

To be eligible, applicants must generally graduate in the top 20% of their high school class or score in the top 20th percentile on the SAT or ACT.
