Monroe County Democrats issue call for delegates ahead of 2026 State Convention

BLOOMINGTON — The Monroe County Democratic Party is officially inviting residents to step into the political spotlight. With the 2026 Indiana Democratic State Convention on the horizon, party leaders are seeking 74 dedicated individuals to represent Monroe County and help steer the future of the state party.

Serving as a delegate offers a front-row seat to the democratic process, allowing grassroots members to influence policy and leadership at a statewide level.

Delegates are the backbone of the state convention. Those selected will be tasked with several critical responsibilities that impact the entire Hoosier state:

  • Shape the Platform: Vote on the official Indiana Democratic Party platform and internal rules.
  • Statewide Nominations: Cast votes for key statewide offices, including positions such as Attorney General and Secretary of State.
  • Caucus Participation: Engage in district-level caucuses to coordinate regional priorities.
  • Local Ambassadorship: Act as the voice of Monroe County within the broader state political landscape.

How to Qualify

The party is looking for a diverse group of representatives, from seasoned volunteers to those entirely new to local politics. To be eligible, candidates must:

  1. Be a resident of Monroe County and a member in good standing with the Democratic Party.
  2. File for candidacy during the 2026 Primary Election filing window (expected to run from January to February 2026).
  3. Commit to attending the State Convention in person (date and location to be finalized by the State Party).

“Serving as a delegate is one of the most direct ways to make your voice heard in the direction of our party,” the Monroe County Democratic Party stated in their announcement.

With 74 delegate spots available, the party is eager to fill its roster with passionate advocates. This is a unique opportunity for Monroe County Democrats to ensure their community’s values are reflected in the state’s political agenda heading into the 2026 election cycle.
