Shawn Deaton Jr., 23, of Bedford, passed away December 10, 2025, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born on May 28, 2002, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Shawn and Karen (Berter) Deaton.
Shawn was heavily active in the Boys and Girls Club and played Orbit Soccer, thriving athletically throughout those years. Shawn enjoyed hunting with his dad and enjoyed fishing with his family. He loved playing video games and anything related to basketball. He could rattle off a player’s stats quicker than you could blink. He hated the spotlight but secretly loved his birthday. He would hound you for months ahead of time to find out what he was getting. Shawn was an animal lover and tried on many occasions to sneak a stray home. He was talented musically, writing his own music and lyrics.
Surviving to cherish Shawn’s memory are his parents, Shawn and Karen Deaton; his brother, Austin Deaton; his sister, Bryanna Deaton; grandparents, Jeff Denny, Richard and Cathy Berter, and Ola and Ken Bullock; aunts and uncles, Heather (Jeremy) Robertson, Jennifere Goode, Tina (Tony) DiGiovanni, Makayla (Andrew) Callen, and Josh (Leanne) Wilson; cousins, Mia Robertson, Maycie Robertson, Jordan Wilson, Gracelynn Wilson, Abby Wilson, Wyatt Wilson, and many additional cousins. Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Granville Deaton, Denise Denny, and Jackie Berter.
Funeral Services for Shawn Deaton Jr. will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne Family Funeral Homes, 818 18th Street, Bedford, Indiana, with Pastor Lindy Hopkins officiating. Burial will follow at the Leatherwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 15, 2025, from 4:00–7:00 PM, also at Ferguson-Lee Chapel.
