BNL’s Guffey wins HHC crown at 140

COLUMBUS – Bedford North Lawrence’s Elysia Guffey won the Hoosier Hills Conference title at 140 pounds during girls high school wrestling action on Saturday.

BNL finished sixth in the team standings, totaling 71 points in the seven-team field. Jeffersonville won the team title with 217 while Floyd Central was second with 192.

Guffey posted victories over Floyd Centra’s Gracie Edmonds (pin in 42 seconds) and Jeffersonville’s Tarajee Diaz (pin in 39 seconds) to claim the championship.

”I’m really happy for Elysia,” BNL coach Dennis Sego said. “She wrestled well, she was able to maintain her composure, balance and speed.”

BNL’s Emma Johnson was fourth at 100 pounds and Penelope Silcott was fourth at 135.

The Stars will compete in the Southridge Invitational on Dec. 13.
