BEDFORD – Edgewood swept to a pair of wins over Bedford North Lawrence during the season-opening swim meet on Tuesday night.

The Mustangs posted a 100-83 victory in the girls meet, then won every event while posting a 109-60 triumph in the boys meet.

In the girls meet, the Stars carded four wins. Mia Manke took the 200-yard freestyle in 2:23.80, Sabrina Lipp touched first in the 50 free in 27.55, and Ava Lipp claimed the 100 backstroke in 1:08.06. Both Lipps teamed with Alaina Fish and Emma Heinzman to win the 200 free relay in 1:51.72.

”We had a couple of injuries in the girls side,” BNL coach Adam Young said. “That was probably the difference as we competed very well against a talented Edgewood team. Their three divers had us down 13-0 right out of the gate. We had a lot of great swims with many girls close to, or faster than, sectional times last year.”

In the boys meet, BNL senior Cameron Irwin was a runnerup in the 200 free and 500 free, while Franklin Johnson finsihed second in the 100 free and 100 breaststroke.

“The boys had a tougher go of it as depth was a factor,” Young said. “That will be a theme throughout the season. There were a lot of great swims.”

BNL will host Floyd Central on Saturday.
