BEDFORD – Bedford North Lawrence’s Wyatt Philpott and Ian Fish each recorded five wins in the season-opening Super Six Duals during high school wrestling action on Saturday.
The Stars went 2-4 in their six matches, conquering Eminence (54-11) and Mitchell (48-24), while falling to Mooresville (66-18), Perry Meridian (48-30), Silver Creek (54-18) and North Harrison (36-29).
“We performed well,” BNL coach Mike Branam said. “Everyone on the team showed improvement every round. Wyatt and Ian had great days. Both looked very comfortable out there against some tough opponents.”
Philpott pinned Mooresville’s Cole Shouse, edged Perry Meridian’s A.J. Koontz by a 10-8 count, pinned North Harrison’s Maximus Barber, and flattened Mitchell’s Will Dobson at 138 pounds. Fish pinned Eminence’s Mason Setser, Mooresville’s Elijah Michael and Perry Meridian’s Victor Wyes, then dominated North Harrison’s Roland Young by a 12-5 technical fall at 165. He finished by pinning Mitchell’s Levi Petro.
Other multiple winners at the mat for BNL included Reece Ritter (215) and Ben Couch (144)
Mooresville was the team champion. Eminence’s Bailey Shadwell (6-0 with six pins) was the outstanding wrestler.
BNL will visit Scottsburg on Dec. 2.
