Martin County Chamber of Commerce to cease operatings effective November 30

SHOALS – The Martin County Chamber of Commerce has announced it will officially cease operations effective November 30, 2025, following months of financial difficulties.

Chamber leaders stated that the decision follows an extensive evaluation that concluded continued operations were unsustainable due to declining membership and insufficient dues to cover office costs and business support activities. The move, according to the board, reflects changing community needs and ongoing financial challenges.

Remaining meetings have been canceled.

The Chamber board is working to resolve all outstanding matters and assist members during the transition.. Members who paid dues for the 2025-2026 year will receive their checks back in the mail after the closing discussions are complete.

The organization offered its sincere gratitude to its members, volunteers, sponsors, and community partners for their years of support, acknowledging the Chamber’s long-standing role in local business advocacy and networking.

The Chamber board stated only that they “voted to divide what money is left between two Martin County organizations.” However, if the Chamber dissolves, any remaining assets would first be used to pay creditors. According to Indiana law, if a dissolved corporation has assets remaining after satisfying its liabilities that cannot be transferred to a creditor, claimant, or member, those assets escheat to the state’s general fund. The exact recipients of the remaining Chamber funds were not disclosed in the announcement.

If you have questions about the transition or the final distribution of funds, your best resource is to contact the Chamber directly before the closure date of November 30 by email at martincountychamberofcommerce@gmail.com or by phone at 812-295-4093.
