BEDFORD — The White River Humane Society is offering financial assistance to help reduce pet overpopulation in Lawrence County through a new spay and neuter voucher program supported by a grant from the Smithville Charitable Foundation.

The program provides $50 off per animal for residents seeking to have their pets spayed or neutered. Each household may receive up to two vouchers, and proof of Lawrence County residency is required.

To qualify, pet owners must already have a veterinary appointment scheduled within 30 days before picking up a voucher. The organization noted that vouchers cannot be used as deposits.
The Humane Society said the effort is part of its ongoing work to help curb unwanted litters and support the long-term health and safety of local animals.
Residents can learn more or request vouchers by visiting the White River Humane Society at 3511 Pumphouse Road in Bedford during business hours, calling 812-279-2457, or emailing wrhsmgt@gmail.com.
