BLOOMINGTON— The Monroe County Democratic Party has announced its search for active Democrats to serve as delegates to the 2026 Indiana Democratic State Convention. This presents a key opportunity for residents to directly influence the state party’s platform and vote on statewide nominations.
Monroe County is slated to send a total of 74 Delegates to the convention, and the party is encouraging both seasoned volunteers and newcomers to local politics to consider applying for this vital role.
Delegates serve as ambassadors for Monroe County Democrats within the broader state party structure. Their responsibilities include:
- The date and location of the Indiana Democratic State Convention are still to be determined (TBD) by the Indiana Democratic Party.
- Voting on Key Decisions: Delegates cast votes on the state party platform, rules, and nominations for critical statewide offices, including those for Attorney General and Secretary of State.
- Participating in Caucuses: Attending district-level caucuses as required.
The party emphasized that serving as a Delegate is one of the most direct and effective ways for individuals to make their voices heard in shaping the direction and agenda of the Democratic Party across Indiana.
To be eligible to serve, interested individuals must meet the following criteria:
- Be a resident of Monroe County and in good standing with the Democratic Party.
- Be willing and able to attend the State Convention in person.
- Must officially file to run for Delegate during the 2026 Primary Election filing period, which typically occurs in January–February 2026.
Those interested in learning more or expressing their interest are encouraged to contact the party immediately by emailing chair@monroedems.org.
