BLOOMINGTON —The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a serious head-on traffic collision that occurred Sunday afternoon on East Smithville Road, sending six people to the hospital with serious injuries.
The incident took place on November 9, 2025, at 3:17 p.m., in the 600 block of E. Smithville Road.
Preliminary findings indicate that a white Toyota Prius crossed the center line of the road and collided head-on with a Chevrolet Equinox traveling in the opposite direction.
All six individuals involved in the crash were transported by ambulance to IU Health Bloomington Hospital. This included all four occupants of the Toyota Prius and both occupants of the Chevrolet Equinox. The extent of their injuries was described as serious.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Team has taken over the case and is actively working to determine the full circumstances that led to the collision.
