INDIANA — Indiana residents who enjoy fruit as part of a healthy diet are urged to check their refrigerators immediately, as a major nationwide recall has prompted several grocery chains in the state to pull potentially contaminated peaches from their shelves.
The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) is alerting the public to Moonlight Companies’ voluntary recall of yellow and white peaches due to the potential presence of Listeria monocytogenes, the bacterium that causes listeriosis.
The recalled fruit was sold at numerous major retail stores in Indiana and across the country, including Walmart, Sam’s Club, Trader Joe’s, Target, Kroger, Sprouts, and Costco.
Listeriosis is a severe infection that can be fatal for high-risk groups. The FDA warns that the infection poses a particularly severe risk to:
- Young children
- Aging adults
- Pregnant women (Listeria can cause miscarriage or stillbirth)
- Individuals with weakened immune systems
Healthy individuals may experience short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.

The recall affects various types of peaches sold both individually and in multi-packs under the Moonlight and Kroger brands. Consumers should look for the following product codes:

The FDA advises consumers who have the recalled fruit to discard it immediately and not consume it. The peaches may be returned to their original place of purchase for a refund.
