Obituary: Stephen D. Mikels

Stephen D. Mikels, 78, passed away on October 27, 2025, in Newburgh, IN.

He was born January 12, 1947, to Ralph and Nellie (Torgdon) Mikels in Bedford, IN. Steve graduated from Bedford High School in 1965. After graduation, he served his country in the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1970. He worked at the Mikels Service Station from 1963 to 1999.

Stephen also worked at Harris Funeral Home in Petersburg in the early 2000s. Steve was a member of the Lawrence County Cattlemen’s Association, the Pike County Farm Bureau Inc. Board, and the Carroll Roberson Ministries Board.

He was a faithful member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Petersburg, IN. Steve and his wife Donna owned and operated the Log Ends Farm Bed and Breakfast in Petersburg.

He loved cattle farming, mowing the grass, and being on the tractor. He married his wife, Donna (Sutton), on October 6, 1986.

Steve is survived by his wife Donna (Sutton) Mikels of Petersburg; sons: Van (Crystal) Mikels of Mitchell, IN, AJ (Courtney) Mikels of Petersburg, IN, Steve Miles of Petersburg, IN; daughter: Amy (Bob) Davis of Bedford, IN; brother: Ed Mikels; sisters: Georgetta Vaught, Jody Hill, Patti Williams-Lane; grandchildren: Kaden Mikels, Parker Mikels, Paisley Mikels, Bailey Mikels, Payton Davis, and Riley Davis.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation for Steve will take place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. EST on Thursday, October 30, at Harris Funeral Home in Petersburg, IN. Services will take place at 10 a.m. EST on Friday, October 31, at Immanuel Baptist Church in Petersburg, IN, with visitation from 9 a.m. EST until service time that day. Pastor Carrol Roberson will be officiating. Burial will follow at Walnut Hills Cemetery in Petersburg, IN.
