WASHINGTON D.C. — Toyo Tire Holdings of America, Inc. (Toyo) had announced a significant safety recall affecting a wide range of its popular tire models due to a production contamination issue that could lead to tread separation. The recall, assigned NHTSA Recall ID Number 25T018, covers numerous all-terrain, highway, and extreme terrain tires.

Affected Tire Models
The extensive list of recalled tires includes:
- Open Country series: A/T III, R/T Trail, M/T, and H/T II
- Crosstek 2
- Dura Grappler Highway Terrain
- Exo Grappler AWT
- Mud Grappler Extreme Terrain
- Recon Grappler A/T
- Ridge Grappler
- Terra Grappler G3 A/T
- Trailer Grappler M/T
Toyo has advised that a detailed chart listing all affected sizes is available, and owners should consult the manufacturer’s resources for specific information.
The Safety Concern
The root cause of the recall is contamination during the production process, which is suspected to have reduced the adhesion between tire components. This defect could cause the tread to separate from the tire. According to the recall synopsis, tread separation can lead to vehicle instability, significantly increasing the risk of a crash.
What Owners Need to Do
Toyo will be replacing all affected tires free of charge at authorized dealerships.
Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed starting on December 13, 2023. Owners who have questions or need to confirm if their tires are included in the recall can contact Toyo’s customer service directly at 800-442-8696.
Consumers are also encouraged to utilize the manufacturer’s or the NHTSA’s Recall Look-up Tool by entering the tire’s brand name or model to find specific recall details and remedy information. If your tires are confirmed to be part of the recall, contact Toyo immediately for further instructions.
