Obituary: John Edward “Cooler” King

March 28, 1972 – October 23, 2025

 John Edward “Cooler” King, 53, passed away Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Franciscan Health Indianapolis.

Born March 28, 1972, in Bedford, he was the son of James Edward and Judith Ann (Edwards) King.

John was a 1990 graduate of Mitchell High School.  He worked in construction as a heavy equipment operator, for the State of Indiana for INDOT, and lastly at NSA Crane as a truck driver handling ammunition for Crane Army Ammunition Activity.  John was also a cattle farmer and liked John Deere tractors. He was currently restoring an old tractor. John was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post No. 250, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107 Auxiliary, Bedford Boat & Sportsmen’s Club, and Shoals Eagles Lodge No. 2442.  He attended Fairview Church of Christ. John always looked forward to camping and fishing at West Boggs Park and had a permanent campsite.

John loved to travel, and he and his friend, Brian Conner, took a memorial motorcycle ride to West Virginia to Hillbilly Hotdogs every year.  Also, every year he would have an annual golfing event with Brian Rainey, Mike Wallace, and Gary King. He had travelled to Playa del Carmen in Mexico, Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, and to Florida many times.  John always enjoyed being with his friends, and he never met a stranger.  He loved everyone with his heart.

Surviving are his daughter, Kearsten Seger King of Mitchell; parents, James and Judith King of Mitchell; brother, Kevin James (Cynthia) King of Mitchell; nephew, Nathan James King of Mitchell; and fiancé, Dottie Jarvis of Mitchell.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 29, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Pastor Greg Strother officiating.  Burial will be at Huron Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 28, and from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
