Bloomington Rail Trail temporarily closed at Rogers Street for road crossing improvements

BLOOMINGTONThe City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department is temporarily closing the Bloomington Rail Trail at the Rogers Street crossing to construct accessibility and safety features.

The trail is closed 1.23 miles south of the trailhead on Country Club Drive, and .81 mile north of the trailhead at Church Lane.

The Rail Trail will be closed beginning Oct. 20 and will remain closed for up to 30 days. No trail detour is available around the closure area; however, the Rail Trail spur to the Southern Meadows neighborhood remains open. The Monroe County Highway Department has also approved a closure and detour of South Rogers Street at the trail crossing for up to 30 days.

Scope of work at the Rail Trail road crossing includes:

  • Placement of a pedestrian-activated Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB)
  • A new streetlight for increased visibility
  • 12-foot-wide paved trail sections on both sides of the road
  • Realigning the trail to create a 90-degree crossing at Rogers Street

The project also involves vegetation removal, site grading, stormwater inlet installation, and final site restoration to ensure long-term functionality and integration with the surrounding landscape along the Bloomington Rail Trail.
