GALENA – Providence swept to a three-set victory over Bedford North Lawrence during the IHSAA Class 4A volleyball sectional semifinal at Floyd Central on Saturday.
The Pioneers advanced with a 25-12, 25-17, 25-23 triumph. Providence will face Floyd Central, which posted a 25-17, 25-14, 25-23 win over New Albany in the second semifinal, in the championship on Saturday night.
Sammie Gratzer had 8 kills and Lily Mishler added 7. Trinidy Bailey and Adalynn Bailey both totaled 8 digs for the Stars.
BNL, which suffered a four-set loss to the Pioneers during the regular season on Sept. 8, closed with a 15-15 record.
”The girls prepared for a tough Providence team all week,” BNL coach Aaron Wagoner said. “We started a little cold and slow in the first set and warmed up as the game went on. The seniors really stepped up this week as leaders.
”We could have been more aggressive from the serving line. We could not get the job done. Hats off to Providence. Great coach, great culture. We love these girls and will miss our seniors in a big way next year.”
The sectional champion will advance to the regional to meet the winner from the sectional at Franklin, with the site to be announced.
