Major tire recall issued for Continental and General brands due to tread detachment risk

NATIONWIDE – The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced a safety recall affecting thousands of tires manufactured by Continental Tire the Americas, LLC (CTA). The recall, identified by NHTSA Recall ID Number 25T017, involves several popular models due to a manufacturing defect that could cause the tire tread to detach.

CTA is recalling specific sizes and models from its Continental and General lines. The affected tires may have been produced with the wrong rubber compound, which can cause the tread to separate—a significant hazard that increases the risk of a crash.

The recall specifically targets the following tires:

  • Continental TerrainContact H/T (LT265/60R20 121/118R)
  • Continental CrossContact LX25 (235/60R18 107V)
  • Continental CrossContact RX ContiSeal (275/40R21 107H)
  • General Grabber HTS 60 (LT245/75/R17 121/118S)

Owners of vehicles equipped with these tires are urged to check their tires immediately.

The remedy for this recall is a free inspection and replacement. Dealers will inspect the affected tires and replace them with new, correctly manufactured ones at no cost to the owner.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed out starting December 1, 2025.

In the meantime, owners who believe their tires may be affected can contact CTA customer service directly at 1-888-799-2168 for more details and remedy information. The NHTSA also encourages the public to utilize its online Recall Look-up Tool by entering the tire’s brand name or model to confirm if their specific product is included in the safety action.

If your tire is part of this recall, contact the manufacturer as soon as possible to arrange for inspection and replacement.
