BEDFORD – Southern Indiana is experiencing a sharp dip in temperatures this week, with residents advised to prepare for a surprisingly chilly couple of days, including the potential for patchy frost by Friday morning. However, forecasters are tracking a significant warming trend set to arrive just in time for fall break.
Brief Cold Snap Expected Mid-Week
According to the National Weather Service, after a recent cool-down, the region is enjoying clear skies and abundant sunshine today and Thursday. However, temperatures will feel decidedly cooler than what is typical for mid-October. Highs are expected to remain in the lower to mid-70s initially, with Thursday shaping up to be the coolest day of the work week.
The most noticeable change will occur overnight, particularly from Thursday night into Friday morning. With clear skies and lighter winds, overnight lows are forecast to dip significantly, potentially nearing the upper 30s in some localized areas, especially those just across the river.
Local officials and residents should monitor this closely, as these conditions are cool enough to support the formation of a patchy frost early Friday morning.
Warm-Up Ahead for Fall Break
The good news is that this brisk weather won’t last long. With fall break approaching for Bedford North Lawrence students, a rapid warming trend is set to begin this weekend.
By Saturday, temperatures are expected to rise back into the mid-to-upper 70s. This warming trend is expected to continue into next week, with highs returning to the upper 70s and lower 80s from Sunday onward.
The forecast also suggests that the dry pattern will persist, meaning no precipitation is expected in the immediate forecast. This promises a beautiful stretch of dry, warm weather to start the fall break.
