GIBSON CO. — A Washington man was arrested Thursday evening after an investigation revealed he sent encrypted, misleading emails to an Auto Sales business in the Fort Branch area regarding a vehicle he had previously owned.
Gibson County Sheriff’s detectives took Raymond Gossett, 67, into custody following the probe into the electronic threats.

The investigation began after the business received several encrypted emails from an unknown sender. The messages contained grave and false allegations, claiming that large amounts of drugs were hidden in the vehicle and that an explosive device had been planted inside it.
Investigators quickly worked to verify the claims. The sheriff’s office confirmed that a search of the vehicle found neither drugs nor explosives.
Although the emails were encrypted, detectives were able to trace them back to an address in Daviess County, which ultimately led them to Raymond Gossett.
The sheriff’s office stated that Gossett admitted to sending the threatening and misleading emails, although the motive for the actions concerning his previously owned vehicle was not immediately detailed.
