Third suspect arrested in Lawrence County burglary and theft case

BEDFORD — The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office has completed the arrest of the third and final suspect involved in a recent burglary and theft investigation that began with a confrontation at a property near Boone Hollow Road.

Byron T. Arnold

Authorities have arrested Byron T. Arnold, 20, of Evansville. Arrested earlier were Collin A. Yates, 22, of North Vernon, and Branson J. Russell, 21, of Kentucky.

The incident, which occurred on August 1, 2025, started when the property owner’s fiancée arrived home to find a suspicious car and three males running from the residence area. The three men, later identified as Arnold, Russell, and Yates, were confronted and claimed they were “going through abandoned houses.”

The victims later reported that several items had been stolen from the property, including a PlayStation 2 and games taken from a locked camper, as well as various collectibles, old clothing, and hats stolen from a nearby abandoned house.

Sheriff Day traced the vehicle and eventually made contact with the suspects, who voluntarily traveled to the Sheriff’s Office for interviews. All three, including Arnold, admitted to entering the abandoned house without permission and stealing items.

While the suspects returned some of the stolen property, which totaled less than $750 in value, the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office proceeded with felony charges due to the unauthorized entry into both the abandoned house and the secured camper.

Arnold was arrested on two charges of burglary of a structure and theft.

Arnold is the last of the three suspects to be formally booked in connection with the incident.
