BEDFORD – A Bedford woman with a prior conviction for intoxicated driving was arrested early Sunday morning after she was observed failing to maintain her lane and driving with non-functioning license plate lights.

The driver was identified as Morgan Brianne Chilton, 32, of Bedford. As Chilton spoke, Deputy Martin immediately detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from her person.
When asked to exit the vehicle to perform field sobriety tests, Chilton reportedly pulled herself from the car and fell into the deputy.
During the tests, Ms. Chilton exhibited several indicators of impairment. Following the tests, Chilton submitted to a preliminary breath test, which registered a blood alcohol content of 0.185. more than twice the legal limit in Indiana, which is 0.08.
After being read her Miranda and Implied Consent rights, Chilton agreed to a blood draw at IU Health Bedford Hospital.
The probable cause affidavit notes that Chilton has a previous case for operating a vehicle while intoxicated in Monroe County.
Due to the high BAC and the prior conviction, Morgan Chilton was arrested and charged with OWI with a previous conviction and OWI with a blood alcohol content of 0.15 or greater.
