Bedford man sentenced to Department of Corrections after landing new criminal conviction

BEDFORD – A Bedford man who violated the terms of his probation by committing a new crime has had his suspended sentence revoked and was ordered to serve time in the Indiana Department of Correction (DOC).

Darrell M. Hildum

Darrell M. Hildum, 35, was sentenced on September 24 by Judge Pro Tem Robert Cline in Lawrence Superior Court I.

Hildum had previously pleaded guilty to domestic battery, a Level 6 felony, under a negotiated plea agreement with the State of Indiana. He was initially sentenced to 545 days in the DOC, with 540 days suspended and a supervised probation period of 365 days.

Judge Robert Cline

However, Hildum was recently convicted of a new criminal offense in Greene County, which triggered the revocation of his suspended sentence. Judge Cline ordered the 540-day suspended sentence to be executed, with credit for time already served in jail to be applied.

Senior Deputy Prosecutor Sarah Cummings

Senior Deputy Prosecutor Sarah Cummings commented on the sentencing, stating, “This Defendant committed a new criminal offense while on probation in this matter. A defendant cannot continue to violate the law of the State of Indiana and not expect to be sent to the Indiana Department of Correction. In this case, prison is the right result”.
