North Daviess Schools briefly on lockdown after report of gunfire

ELNORA – North Daviess Schools were placed on lockdown Wednesday afternoon after reports of gunfire near the campus. The lockdown was initiated as a precautionary measure while law enforcement investigated the incident.

The Daviess County Sheriff’s Department received a report at approximately 1:18 p.m. regarding shots being fired from a home on State Road 58, near the school. The report alleged that a neighbor had fired the shots following a dispute over an animal complaint involving dogs on school property earlier in the day.

Deputies from multiple agencies, including the Indiana State Police, responded to the scene. The school was placed on lockdown, and a perimeter was established.

By approximately 2:00 p.m., officers determined that the situation was under control and the lockdown was lifted. No injuries were reported, and the incident remains under review by authorities.
