Over $500,000 in Urban Forestry Grants available in Indiana

INDIANA – The Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has announced the availability of over $508,559 in grants to fund community and urban forestry projects across the state. The funding is being offered through three separate grant opportunities, all with an application deadline of October 23, 2025.

The three available grants are:

  • Community & Urban Forestry Assistance (CUFA) Grant: This grant supports a wide range of projects, including tree inventories, management plans, and tree plantings.
  • State Urban Forest Resilience (SUFR) Grant: This funding is specifically for managing and recovering from the devastating effects of the emerald ash borer. Projects may include the removal of dead ash trees, treating infected trees, and planting new trees.
  • Small Town Big Trees: This grant is exclusively for communities with a population of 10,000 or fewer. Like the CUFA grant, it can be used for projects such as inventories, management plans, and tree plantings.

The DNR advises applicants to carefully review the instructions for each grant, as eligibility and the application process have changed. While communities can apply for more than one grant, receiving multiple awards is not guaranteed.
