ORLEANS — Fall in Orleans brings more than just colorful leaves this year — it also marks the return of the Orleans Chamber of Commerce’s annual Scarecrow Competition.

Residents and businesses are invited to design and display family-friendly scarecrows throughout town. Organizers say entries should avoid frightening, gruesome, or political themes, keeping the focus on creativity and community fun.
Entry forms are available at Orleans Town Hall during business hours, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Completed forms must be returned by Oct. 1.
Scarecrows should be displayed outside homes or businesses to be considered for the Judge’s Choice Award. People’s Choice voting will take place during the Fall Festival on Congress Square on Oct. 11.
The contest includes two categories — household and business — with two winners in each. Participants will be assigned numbers to display with their scarecrows for judging.
The annual contest has become a seasonal highlight for Orleans, adding a festive touch to the town each October.
