INDIANA — In an effort to combat SNAP benefit theft, state officials are urging Indiana EBT cardholders to use the card’s lock feature. Currently, only 3% of SNAP EBT cardholders in Indiana utilize this tool, leaving their benefits vulnerable to theft through card skimming, cloning, and other fraudulent methods.

Since the state is currently unable to replace stolen SNAP benefits, EBT card users are strongly encouraged to use the lock feature to protect their funds from unauthorized use. The theft of these benefits victimizes Hoosiers who depend on them to feed their families.
To help combat SNAP fraud, state partners are being asked to share information on how to use the lock and unlock feature on their social media channels to raise awareness.
