Governor orders flags at half-staff to honor fallen firefighter

DUBOIS CO. Governor Mike Braun has declared a period of mourning in Dubois County to honor the life and service of Lucas Gehlhausen, a volunteer firefighter who died in the line of duty on Sunday, September 7th.

Gehlhausen was a 17-year member of the Celestine Volunteer Fire Department and a native of Jasper, who also worked as a farmer.

As a sign of respect, the governor has directed that flags be flown at half-staff in Dubois County, at the Indiana Statehouse, and at the Indiana Law Enforcement and Firefighters Memorial. This observance will continue through sunset on Friday.

The governor is also encouraging residents, businesses, and organizations throughout Dubois County to join in the tribute by lowering their flags.
