Obituary: Erma J. Foster

January 17, 1939 – September 16, 2025

Erma J. Foster of Bedford passed away on September 16, 2025, at Stonebridge Health Campus at the age of 86 after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Erma was a twin, born on January 17, 1939, in Reynoldsville, Illinois, to Lloyd and Minnie Mainer.  Erma graduated from Shawnee High School in Wolf Lake, Illinois, and Cape Business College in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. She and her family settled in Bedford in 1965.  Erma worked for Lawrence County Superior Court, the Clerk’s Office, and the Probation Department for 48 years.

Erma was preceded in death by her parents, six siblings, and her former husband, Larry W. Foster.

She is survived by her daughters, Lori (Mike) Jarrard of Bedford, Jill (Tim) Sanders of Linden, VA; sister, Maude (Thomas) Kaufman of Pekin, IL; nephew, Brent Deweese; five grandchildren, Haley Fausett, Abby Kline, Danilo Caceres, Morgan (Greg) Sheppard, Andie (Allen) Veren; seven great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and many loyal friends and surviving family members in Illinois.

Erma was a devoted mother and grandmother with a quick wit and a great sense of humor. She never missed a birthday, anniversary, or important date to those close to her. She will be remembered for her many passions – her impressive Coca-Cola collection that she proudly displayed, and her enjoyment of bowling with friends. Whether she was tending to her yard, homemaking, or enjoying a good laugh around her kitchen table, she found joy in the simple, everyday moments. Her selflessness, humor, and unwavering love leave behind a legacy that will continue to inspire those who knew her.

A graveside service will be held at Cresthaven Cemetery and Memorial Gardens on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 11:00 am.
