Lawrence County declares “Manufacturing Day” to honor key industry

BEDFORD The Lawrence County Commissioners have officially designated October 3, 2025, as Manufacturing Day in Lawrence County. The proclamation, passed and approved at the September 9 meeting, recognizes the vital role of manufacturing in the local economy and community.

The resolution highlights that manufacturing is a “critical driver” in Lawrence County, employing over 3,000 workers, which accounts for approximately 14% of the workforce. The sector is also responsible for a significant 25% of the county’s total wage distribution.

The proclamation acknowledges that manufacturing jobs offer excellent career opportunities for high school students, allowing them to remain in the community. It provides local adults with chances for growth by gaining additional skills. It also commends Lawrence County manufacturers for their commitment to supporting the community and developing the next generation of skilled workers.

This designation aligns with a national effort to celebrate modern manufacturing and inspire the next generation of manufacturers.
