CELESTINE — The Celestine Volunteer Fire Department is mourning the tragic loss of one of its members, Luke Gehlhausen, 41, who died in the line of duty on Sunday, September 7.
According to fire officials, Gehlhausen was responding to a structure fire in his personal vehicle when he was involved in a fatal single-vehicle accident.

A 17-year veteran of the department, Gehlhausen served the community from the station located on East State Road 164.
“At this time, we ask that you keep Luke’s wife, children, parents, sister, and extended family in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this difficult situation. We would like to extend our appreciation to the following organizations and individuals who assisted on the scene: Deaconess Memorial Hospital EMS Service, Dubois County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana State Police, and Uebelhor and Sons Wrecker Service. Service details will be shared as they become available,” said Chief Ryan Wineinger.
