BEDFORD — Casey Brown, who is accused of murdering 21-year-old Kobe Stancombe of Bedford, is set to face a jury in Lawrence County Superior Court I. The trial, presided over by Judge John Plummer III, is scheduled to begin with jury selection on Monday, September 8, 2025, at 8:30 a.m., according to court records.

The charges stem from a shooting that allegedly occurred inside a Jeep on Saturday, February 25, 2024, where Brown, Stancombe, and a third person, Bradley Harper, were all present. Following the shooting of Stancombe, Brown is accused of attempting to shoot the female who fled the vehicle. He is also charged with holding Harper against his will before forcing him to flee the scene.

A police chase ensued after officers spotted the Jeep at a Hucks convenience store in Paoli. During the felony stop, Harper complied with officers’ commands to exit the vehicle, but Brown allegedly refused to surrender. An hours-long standoff followed, during which officers used pepper balls and gas canisters in an attempt to get Brown to comply.
The standoff ended when Brown reportedly shot himself. Officers immediately removed him from the vehicle and administered life-saving measures. He was taken to IU Health in Paoli by ambulance and then flown to the University of Louisville Hospital, where he was released on Friday, March 8, 2024. Brown was transported to the Lawrence County Jail to face charges of murder, attempted murder, and criminal confinement while armed with a deadly weapon.
Those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
