BEDFORD — Gavin Byall, 35, of Mishawaka, was arrested on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, for a string of thefts in Bedford, including a theft at a local liquor store.

According to an affidavit for probable cause filed by Bedford Police Detective Justin Dodd, the investigation began after a report of a theft at Kindred Spirits on Tuesday, September 2, 2025. An employee at Kindred Spirits showed police a video that showed a man taking a bottle of liquor from a shelf and concealing it in his waistband before leaving the store without paying. Detective Dodd posted a picture of the suspect from the video on Facebook to help identify him. A tip led police to the 700 block of Lincoln Avenue, where the man, identified as Gavin Byall, was later located by Sergeant Gerkin.
Byall was taken to Detective Dodd’s office for an interview, where he was read his Miranda warnings and agreed to speak. Byall initially denied the theft at Kindred Spirits. However, after being shown the video, he confessed to taking the vodka, stating he was so intoxicated he didn’t remember doing it.
During the interview, Byall also confessed to other thefts, including incidents at gas stations. He told police he was hungry and homeless and was stealing to survive. He also admitted to stealing a moped after police showed him video evidence linking him to the crime. Byall told police his father had recently passed away, and he was going through a difficult time. He expressed a willingness to pay for the stolen items.
