BEDFORD – Bedford North Lawrence’s Sammie Nusbaum carded a career-best score of 3-under 32 while leading the Stars to a dominating win over county rival Mitchell during girls high school golf action on Wednesday.
The Stars carded 154 on the West Course at Stone Crest while the Bluejackets posted 256.
Nusbaum posted birdies on the first and fifth holes, then finished with an eagle on the par-5 ninth.
“Sammie’s putting was some of the best putting I’ve ever seen from her,” BNL coach Carly Stigall said. “She locked in and took advantage of every shot she had.”
Kinleigh Root fired a 39 with two birdies (the first and third holes) while Kadynn Canada added a career-best 41. Emma Voris capped the team scoring with a 42.
“This team really showed off the hard work they’ve been putting in every day,” Stigall said. “I challenged the girls to really hit the gas for tonight’s match, and they stepped up and did it. Kadynn and Bella (Warren, who shot 43) both have made leaps and bounds these past four weeks, and tonight has me really excited to see what these two can do the rest of the season.
”The last couple weeks, the scores have had some solid rounds from players, but pieces of the puzzle had been missing. Tonight, the pieces came together and showed what this team is made of. This team has big goals, and tonight was a great confidence boost for them to get fired up for the weeks to come.”
BNL will host Jasper at Otis Park on Tuesday.
