BEDFORD — A Mitchell man was arrested on September 1, 2025, after police found him in an impaired state at a local McDonald’s.
Brandon Haley, 29, was taken into custody and booked into the Lawrence County Jail on a charge of public intoxication.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed by Bedford Police Officer Sarah Haluda, officers were dispatched to the McDonald’s at 3202 16th Street after a caller reported a man who appeared to be intoxicated or on drugs in the men’s restroom.
When officers arrived, they were directed to the man, identified as Brandon Haley, who was exiting the restroom. Officer Haluda noted that Haley was unable to control his body movements, was grinding his teeth, and was unsteady on his feet. Due to his impaired state, he was immediately removed from the building and placed in handcuffs. During the arrest, Haley was repeatedly uncooperative and made uncontrollable movements. A search incident to arrest revealed the plunger portion of a syringe in his pocket.
Haley claimed he had been dropped off at IU Health Bedford Hospital by a friend before coming to McDonald’s, but the hospital’s ER reception reported no record of him checking in that day. A McDonald’s employee informed officers that Haley had been in the restaurant for approximately an hour and had remained in the same condition the entire time. The employee also stated that Haley had initially been in the women’s restroom before entering the men’s room with two juvenile males. The juveniles told officers that Haley had been throwing up in the restroom before police arrived.
All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. This article is based on the information provided in the Probable Cause Affidavit and does not represent a final determination of guilt or innocence.
