Lawrence County GOP to hold caucus for vacant Bedford City Council seat

BEDFORD– The Lawrence County Republican Central Committee has announced it will hold a caucus to fill a vacancy on the Bedford City Council.

The position became available following the resignation of City Councilman Dan Bortner, who accepted a new role with the Bedford Chamber of Commerce and Lawrence County Economic Growth Council.

The caucus is scheduled for Monday, September 15, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at the Lawrence County Circuit Court, located within the Lawrence County Courthouse at 916 15th Street, Bedford, IN 47421. Lawrence County Republican Party Chairman Chase Cummings will chair the caucus.

Interested Republican candidates must be in good standing and submit their Indiana CEB-5 and CAN-12 forms to Chairman Cummings by Friday, September 12, at 7:00 p.m., which is 72 hours before the caucus.

Only Precinct Committeemen within the Bedford City limits are eligible to vote. If a Precinct Committeeman cannot attend, their Vice-Precinct Committeeman may cast a proxy vote, but only if the necessary PX-1 Form is submitted before the caucus begins.

The caucus will be a closed event, with attendance limited to precinct committeemen, candidates, and individuals designated by the County Chairman.
