Obituary: Charles Sturgeon

May 29, 1932 – August 20, 2025

Charles Sturgeon, 93, of Bloomington, passed away at 2:36 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at his residence.

Born May 29, 1932, in Monroe Co., he was the son of Homer and Della Sturgeon. He was a farmer, a furniture business owner, and an auctioneer. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served with the 101st Airborne Division.

Survivors include two sons, Dan (Elizabeth) Sturgeon, of Bedford, and Bruce (Annette) Sturgeon, of Bloomington; three grandchildren, Daniel Sturgeon, Bradley Sturgeon, and Rob Bowman; a great-granddaughter, Adele Sturgeon; a daughter-in-law, Tammy Sturgeon, of Bloomington; and a sister, Betty Hamm, of Whitehall, IN; a brother, Terry (Betty) Sturgeon, of Solsberry; and his closest friend, Larry (Lindsay) Kalb.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Bradley Sturgeon, and 20 siblings.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 23rd, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Terry Myers officiating. Military rites will be accorded by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Burial will follow in the Greene County Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service on Saturday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
