BEDFORD — A man from Indianapolis was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated in Lawrence County early Wednesday morning.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed by Indiana State Police Trooper Caroline Roberts, she observed a blue Dodge with unusual driving behaviors on State Road 37 around 12:44 a.m. The vehicle was allegedly swerving over the fog line and fluctuating its speed from 45 miles per hour to over 70 miles per hour in a 60 miles per hour zone.
Trooper Roberts conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as Michael K. Thompson, 40. The affidavit states that Thompson had slurred speech, watery eyes, and smelled of alcohol. He admitted to drinking a few White Claws.

Thompson failed several standardized field sobriety tests. A portable breathalyzer test showed a blood alcohol content of 0.175. After refusing a blood draw, a search warrant was obtained to have his blood drawn at IU Bedford Hospital.
Thompson was then taken to the Lawrence County Jail.
All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. This article is based on the information provided in the Probable Cause Affidavit and does not represent a final determination of guilt or innocence.
