Edinburg gas station attendant arrested on rape charge

EDINBURGH A gas station attendant in rural Edinburgh has been arrested on a preliminary charge of rape following a report of an assault on Sunday, August 17.

The suspect has been identified as 24-year-old Varinderpal Singh of Edinburgh. According to the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report around 3:22 a.m. Sunday, the staff at Johnson County Memorial Hospital provided care to a person who said she had been sexually assaulted. 

The investigation determined the assault occurred inside the gas station where Singh was employed, located in the 13000 block of U.S. Highway 31 North. Singh was subsequently booked into jail and is currently on a 72-hour hold. 

This is considered a preliminary investigation, and no further details regarding the case are available at this time.
